Audit Your Warehouse’s Efficiency

There’s an old saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Even so, you could save a lot of money in labor, products, and equipment by thoroughly analyzing how your warehouse works.

At Ace Industrial, we’ve answered many questions from our customers about auditing a warehouse. We’ve also made valuable and successful recommendations on how different types of pallet rack can increase storage space, efficiency, and safety. As a starting point, here are some key areas to examine in your warehouse:

  • How are you using the warehouse space you have? Walk through your facility and write down areas where your cubic space would be more organized with better pallet rack, mezzanines, and conveyor systems.
  • Is your warehouse clean? Find areas that need to be cleaned and organized. Assign staff members to pick things up and make the most of the pallet rack and shelving systems in place.
  • Ask for recommendations from your employees. Does your staff need more efficient storage areas, additional shelving, conveyor systems, or a different style of pallet rack to improve warehouse operations?
  • Talk things over with warehouse supervisors and ask them to write down five warehouse trouble spots that should be addressed first.
  • Plan for at least 12 to 18 months in the future at all times. Use your current sales projections to estimate your storage and warehouse needs for the next year or two. That way, you won’t be cramped for space and turning away customers while your company grows.
  • How easy is it to find what you’re looking for? Try to locate some stock items and see if there’s any way the system could be more efficient.
